About your Guide

Kate is a native of County Meath, based in the heritage town of Kells. After studying Horticulture at the National Botanic Gardens, she returned there as a guide with the Education and Events team. She is an approved Local Tour Guide and recently completed an MSc in World Heritage Management, focusing on natural heritage and peatland conservation.

"I have been visiting Girley Bog since it opened as a National Looped Walk in 2009 and have detailed knowledge of the flora, fauna and natural history of this site. My experiences writing about and photographing my local bog spurred me to more actively engage in its conservation through a wish to raise awareness of this unique Irish habitat and share it with visitors".

"I joined Kate for a walking tour of Girley Bog in Summer 2013. I found her tour to be very informative and enjoyable, and I learned a lot about the native plants of the area as well as the importance of conserving our bogs. I hope to return again this year to learn more. Kate is patient and well informed, and has a talent for being able to appeal to people of all ages and levels of knowledge"
